Poneloya is a beach located only 20km from the colonial city of León. You can enjoy nice views of the ocean and delicious fresh fish. You have to be careful with the waves which can be tough on high tide!

Just north of Las Penitas, separated by a rocky headland is Poneloya. It is a small fishing village, and does not get the foreign tourist numbers of Las Penitas. Mostly locals here on holidays and weekends. It is very quiet, but does have a number...More

My bestie and I visited specifically for sunset. Playa Poneloya did not disappoint. What a wonderful expansive beach filled with black volcanic ash. We especially loved that the beach was quiet. There were only a few people including fisherman and dogs frolicking on a lovely...More

I really liked the beach and the restaurants. the food is nice, not too expensive, a cold beer on a hot summer day is just what you need. Also the waves are awesome, great fun for the whole group.

One of the most beautiful sunset locations! Restaurant food excellent but noticed after 8 years of visiting, staff a bit less friendly and very bold about asking for tips which has never happened before. Waiter wanted me to pay extra for my second drink which...More

We decided to go to see the sunset. It was worth it. The beach was clean and the water cool. The views were fabulous. The food at the stalls was ok but not spectacular

Went on a Sunday in December, the place was virtually empty. We grabbed a covered table with a hammock to spend the afternoon. This is a locals beach, very few tourists, at least in the area we were at. There isn't much commercial development along...More
