The outside of the cathedral is more impressive than its interior, particularly when the light is good, early and late in the day, or in bright sunshine. The 'must do' feature is going up to the roof, where the whiteness and dome shapes can make you think - fleetingly - that you might be in Greece or somewhere European. There... More

out of all the churches, large n small, i've been to around the world, each one impacts differently and this one struck me as beautiful in its simplicity. their arent any crazy stain glass windows or large ornate sculptures or massive frescoes...the colours are muted in creams and the scroll work near the ceiling pops. the outside is being refurbished... Nice view from the top, nothing special inside ... to recommend just to see the view around from the top of the cathedral

The only church in Nicaragua to have Basilica status. A huge, ornate, extremely beautiful church. Contains the remains of Rueben Dario, a legend in Nicaragua.

This magnificent cathedral is undergoing renovation, but is almost finished and can be toured on your own. There are beautiful paintings and many icons. There is no charge to enter, but donations may be made. You can also access steps to the top of the cathedral for a great view. The steps are located on the left side of the... More

This was a first and a not miss whilst in Leon. For $3's, you can have an experience which is unique. Walking across the roof of a Cathedral (3 biggest in the world). The views of the Volcano's in the distance are outstanding

This is a beautiful Cathedral, well worth visiting. The interior is lovely but for me the best area was on the roof to see the domes and a great view of the city and the string of 5 volcanoes in the distance. You must remove your shoes to walk on the roof but it isn't hot and it is well... More

Such a beautiful structure and with a beautiful backdrop to boot. Couple minor rules about not jumping around on the domes or swinging from bells (people actually do this??), but all in all, easy, inexpensive attraction, and well worth the three flights of stairs.

The is a large cathedral but it really isn't very attractive. It is the largest cathedral in Central America, but we were disappointed. If you do go, go upstairs for a pretty view of the city and volcanoes.
