Great hike with awesome views. I wouldn't want to miss this great experience. A kind challenging hike to top, but you are rewarded with really cool volcano, ocean and mountain views as well as seeing the smoldering crater

It only last about 30 seconds but the rush will stay with you until you come back over and over...this is an activity I will try every time I visit Leon...as long as El Cerro Negro allows it of course.

Fantastic! We climbed with Bigfoot hostel and volcano boarded down to the bottom. Relatively easy climb (especially if you get a Sherpa to carry your board) otherwise it gets more windy towards the top and will require you to stop to brace yourselves in places. No shade, so make sure you're sun smart, but leave things down the bottom of... More

Great trip with a great guide. I am a professionally trained guide from the Western Canada, and our guide Dennis was great. He really helped out a girl from our group that was struggling. This is not a difficult climb, the trail is in great shape and follows the contours of the volcano well. You are rewarded with beautiful views... More

Volcano boarding at Cerro Negro was a great experience, but too short for the time it takes to climb up the mountain. The climb took between 45 minutes to 1 hour for our group - the ride down was 3 minutes. That being said, it was truly exciting and the view from the top was awesome. The hike up is... More

Did volcano boarding on Cerro Nero with Bigfoot Backpackers and had a great time. Excellent tour guide (Ryan?) who made sure we all had a great time and were safe & comfortable. I wasn't really expecting to do volcano boarding figuring it was for a younger crowd, but I can say enough good things about how much fun I had...plus,... More

We went Volcano Boarding with Quetzaltrekkers and Halle was our guide. She was awesome and helped make the experience really great! We chose them because they were the only company to let you go down twice. Super fun experience, my favorite excursion I've done in all of Central America! (We've been through 5 countries so far) Our tour was $30... More

We booked a tour to Cerro Negro like everyone else, for the volcano boarding. You've already read many reviews of this activity (awesome!) so I'll try to focus on fact which might impact your decision to visit: 1. The drive there is over a "main" road but it's bumpy, sandy and long - not like any "main" road in more... More

The hike is quite easy (around 45 minutes). From the top you have a beautiful view. The boarding is not easy. It can be hard to control the board and some people might be scared because its a hard and long slope. But if you like extreme sports it's a great experience. Just don't be afraid to get dusty !... We did the volcano boarding the other day and booked through our hostel. It's very hot in leon so we opted for a 7AM start. This is highly recommended. The boards are quite heavy so the easy climb up the mountain can become quite treacherous. The view from up the volcano is amazing and we took lots of great pictures.... More
