This citadel is the old fortress within the walls of Khiva. It has some beautiful wall decoration and lovely carved doors. Well worth a visit

I'm not really one for searching out 'perfect' photo spots for sunrise and sunset, but I would make an exception for this! The walls of Khiva are a remarkable monument in general, but up here at sunset was very very beautiful!

If you are physically fit, you must get on the citadel and walk around. This is the best way to see Khiva old city. The best view, really. I spent an hour on the top taking pictures.

It is a living museum, very interesting site, good for photography, must have a guide to get the historical background. Walking on the wall is recommended in the evening summer time.

The citadel or palace Kunya Ark is visited by minimum 90 percent of travelers coming in Khiva. Even if its harem is now closed the summer mosque, reception hall and the observation tower offer you nice impressions.

The harem is particularly interesting, note the Swastika symbol at the apartment of the Khan's senior wife as a marking of seniority and blessing

Beautiful monument with amazing decorations and mosaics. From the roof, the view on the whole city of Khiva is excellent.

beautiful coloured tilework, lots of big courtyards and passageways and just a little imagination can take you right back to the times when westerners would not walk here

did this as part of a tour and I think it was a ticket that covers many sights in the city although if you want to go up to the watchtower there is an extra cost. But really the admission prices to historic monuments in... More
