Dow Gardens is truly a garden for all seasons and is open all year. The gardens were developed in 1899 by Herbert H. Dow, founder of The Dow Chemical Company. They include massed plantings of annuals and perennials, a system of ponds, and collections of flowering crabapples, roses, viburnums, and rhododendrons. More than 20,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs are planted in the fall for spring blooms.Famed architect, Alden B. Dow, son of Herbert, added many architectural elements to the gardens. He believed as did his father that the entire beauty of the garden should never be revealed in a single glance. A walk along streamside reveals a curving pathway bordered by lush annuals and a stream, leading to an historic red bridge which takes you to the conservatory.Other attractions include the award winning Children’s Garden, a maze, and a rockery of dwarf evergreens near the entrance. Special events include the annual Christmas Walk, concerts in the gardens, butterflies in the conservatory, outdoor movies, and tours of the estate home.

Dow gardens is a gem in Midland. My family was so happy to have found this amenity close by when we moved from Chicago. We visit the gardens in Spring ( butterflies, gardening), Summer, (kids park and roses), and Fall, ( leaves changing). We always enjoy it.

We love walking around the gardens!!!! It's beautiful, peaceful and well worth it. The Alden Dow House is beautiful, modern architecture. There are ponds, rose garden, waterfalls and beautiful statues.

The grounds are immaculate as you stroll through arbors from one area to the next. If you go in early July, you might catch the rose garden in full splendor!

Would recommend to anyone. Visited while there was a farmers market. Picked up some coffee, preserves, baked goods for a family dinner and meats. Perfect surprise for out of towners.

Great value if you buy an annual pass. Lots of activities all year long, fun Friday activities for kids in summer.

The annual Christmas Walk was truly a wonder to see. The walkways were aligned with real boxed candles. The decorations and lighting were phenomenal. There were 3 areas of Christmas Carolers who did a fantastic job. Halfway thru the walk was a warming area with hot chocolate, coffee and cookies. No set price on these items. Just a small donation.... More

Excellent place for a stroll through the hidden gem of midlands past. Amazing how just a garden can be entertaining. The smells, the colors, and the life, bring everything together, to be one unforgettable experience.
