Overview
More
Emmet County owns the historic McGulpin Point Lighthouse, which protected shipping on the Straits of Mackinac against storms, fog and rocks between 1869 and 1906. It was purchased by the county in 2008, which reopened McGulpin to the public with a gala celebration on May 30, 2009. The site is approximately 10 acres and is a half mile north of the Headlands. It includes 336 feet of shoreline on the Straits with a commanding view of the Mackinac Bridge. Trail to the Straits includes new interpretive signage coming in Summer 2015! Beautifully maintained grounds and interior. There is always something new at McGulpin Point!

A beautiful lighthouse on a beautiful piece of land! We were able to climb to the top of the lighthouse (not bad, only 53 steps or so) and tour the living quarters too. Once you reach the top of the lighthouse you can step out...More

We enjoyed from the outside. They stop entry 1/2 hour before closing. There is an entry fee. I can't comment about the indoor museum but it is a lovely little light house.

Very nice light house restored for tourists. A warning though. It is $3.00 to go into main lighthouse and go to top. When you go to top, You need to crawl through a small hole to get to outside railing area. Very tough if you...More

This lighthouse is nice and has a lot of information about the history. There is also a walking path to the lake where you can see the Mackinac Bridge. Just beware of the life size picture cut outs on the path, they can be a...More

We got to the lighthouse after it closed so we did not get to tour it but we are still glad we made the stop for photos. It is lovely and if you are lighthouse enthusiast it is definitely worth your time for a visit.

McGulpin Lighthouse is a short drive from Mackinaw City. There is a small museum that costs $3 per person and includes the climb. At the top there is a small door to crawl out on to the narrow catwalk. There is a great view of...More

Building has been updated with lots of pertinent information about the lighthouse history, its role in the area and also provides multiple books/videos of Mackinaw

Very nicely set up. The walk through of the lighthouse keeper's living quarters and the lighthouse itself was very interesting and educational. We were able to stroll around outside and look at the out buildings as well. The kids loved it!

We visited the grounds in late October and the house was closed for the season. It is in a serene location with a pathway to the shore. The structure is well-built and large for a light-keepers home.

This is a nice lighthouse stop for a free will donation. Aside from the lighthouse itself and a small gift shop, there is a walking trail or road access to the Mcgulpin Point Rock, a large rock on the shoreline historically used to gauge lake...More
