Emmet County owns the historic McGulpin Point Lighthouse, which protected shipping on the Straits of Mackinac against storms, fog and rocks between 1869 and 1906. It was purchased by the county in 2008, which reopened McGulpin to the public with a gala celebration on May 30, 2009. The site is approximately 10 acres and is a half mile north of the Headlands. It includes 336 feet of shoreline on the Straits with a commanding view of the Mackinac Bridge. Trail to the Straits includes new interpretive signage coming in Summer 2015! Beautifully maintained grounds and interior. There is always something new at McGulpin Point!

Another of the many lighthouses in the Straits area. Two miles west of Mackinaw City, and easy to get to, if somewhat isolated. Well restored and well-kept. You can tour the keeper's residence, and climb the spiral staircase to the lantern room of the lighthouse...More

Very nicely set up. The walk through of the lighthouse keeper's living quarters and the lighthouse itself was very interesting and educational. We were able to stroll around outside and look at the out buildings as well. The kids loved it!

We visited the grounds in late October and the house was closed for the season. It is in a serene location with a pathway to the shore. The structure is well-built and large for a light-keepers home.

This is a nice lighthouse stop for a free will donation. Aside from the lighthouse itself and a small gift shop, there is a walking trail or road access to the Mcgulpin Point Rock, a large rock on the shoreline historically used to gauge lake...More

We stopped at this lighthouse on the way home from our trip to Mackinac Island. It’s a quaint lighthouse with an amazing view if you can make it up the creepy see thru windy stairs to the top! It’s a tight fit once up there....More

To be honest I didn't spend much time in the actual lighthouse, but the path through history is totally worth it the stop here. Learned about ships that have crashed in the area, and the history of the area including different wars and not stereotypical...More

The lighthouse and it's history are very interesting. The staff was pleasant. It was nice to sit down and watch the 15 minute video on the shipwrecks. It was not overly crowded on the day we went so we were able to go through it...More

Thought we had seen most of the lighthouses in the area but surprised to find this one. Can walk down to the water and see the Mackinaw Bridge from a different angle and still climb the tower to see the bridge from above. Nice grounds...More

They absolutely can!! Only requirement is an adult stay with them. They will have NO trouble getting out onto the deck at the top of the tower, that's for sure. Take some time to walk the trail down to the lake. That was an... More
