This is Mackinac Island State Park, a landscape characterized by high limestone bluffs, beautiful vistas of sparkling water, vibrant forests, and mystical geological formations. With automobiles banned since 1898, here exists a quieter way of life away from interstate noise of cities. Over 80 percent of Mackinac Island is within Mackinac Island State Park—free of charge and open year round—where you’ll discover the true natural gems of Mackinac. Whether visiting this island parkland by foot, bike, horseback, or carriage, these many majestic geological wonders and unique historical monuments are visual treasures found only here—on the island sacred to the Ojibwa and Odawa Great Lakes Indian tribes. According to them, this is where life began. You’re invited to discover why.

We only spent the day here with our kids and I would not recommend more than two. The kids enjoyed the horse ride and touring around a bit, but other than that, we felt this area is nice for couples without kids. There are some great places to eat...I will review just one.

I found out about Mackinac Island after looking through a local bus tour company brochure, ran the idea by my wife, showed her some pictures, and it was definately a go. The ferry ride over from Mackinaw City was quick and enjoyable, ideal weather and temperatures, not overly crowded and we spent the day visiting the shops and Fort Mackinac.... More

My husband and I was loved the park, very clean and well kept. The trees and views was something to see. A must visit way up North.

No cars just bike cycles and horses of course foot traffic is all that's allowed on the island. Great food in town, again no cars. check out the fort at the top. to old or out of shape to climb the stairs, then get on one of the horse carriage taxis and get dropped off on the other side of... We rented bikes and went around the island. Kids had a blast riding through town where you wouldn't normally be able to ride a bike (in towns with cars). We started to go inland, but was too hilly for us! Was nice to bike, stop and explore the lakeshore, bike, look at an old church, bike, etc. Bikes were expensive... More

We enjoyed a day on Mackinac island and I can recommend the park. Simply beautiful and we had no idea it existed until friends living in Michigan suggested we take a visit. Easy to access, lots of trails and history here.

Would definitely recommend hiring bikes to cycle around the island. It's 8 miles in total and is so beautiful. We hired bikes for an hour then hiked up through the park. It's surprisingly hilly so be prepared but the views are worth it.

Loved biking through the park. Beauty everywhere! And a nice 8 mile jaunt is really enjoyable, nicely active, but not difficult, as it's quite a flat terraine around the island. But you look up to gorgeous and steep bluffs.
