Congrats to the islanders for reconstructing the Fort. The historical info was very interesting but the fort is pretty small. Can't go into the 2nd level. However, that being said, it was worth the bike ride uphill just for the view. You can see the...More

The fort is at the top of the island. To get there you have to walk uphill all the way with a series of stairways consisting of approximately 144 steps to make the final ascension to the top. If you are not is good shape...More

Highest point on Mackinac Island, breathtaking views. It's a little climb for sure, my 12 yr old and myself chose bikes, definitely worth the effort.

The panoramic views alone would make the hike up to Fort Holmes worth it but the fort is actually interesting. A nice addition to the island. It was just rebuilt in the past couple of years. There is good signage to tell the story of...More

Although Fort Holmes is an interesting fort, the fact that it was recently constructed takes away from any historical experience. If you're in the area, by all means stop and take a look but keep in mind that it isn't authentic.

This recreation isn't that old and it is well done. This would be a great place to have a picnic lunch too as it offers great views of Lake Huron from up high. The highest point on the island! There isn't much inside the fort...More

It's a bit of a trip to get up to Fort Holmes but well worth it. They have restored this and it's fantastic. They have added alot of historical information as well. The highest point on the island, so the views are great.

Everyone needs to take the trip up to Fort Holmes at least once. Yes it is quite a hike or bike ride but definitely worth it! In a pinch, you can hire a horse and buggy tour that will take you up.

Great views, good exercise. A bit lean on the 'Wow!' factor other than the views, but it's free. There is not bathroom; just a port-o-let, but it was clean. Definitely hike down the Sugar Something Trail and see the rock afterwards, then take the trails...More

It is quite a trip up to Fort Holmes, but the view is spectacular. Take the staircase or take the road by bike.
