Totally unexpected but loaded with rooms and rooms and more rooms of local copper country history....plus more! Set aside more than an hour plus to absorb all the displays and the wide range of artifacts. Didn't make it to the out buildings but even more to see.

There was so much history and information inside the museum. We mainly came here to ride the steam train. Unfortunately they didn't have enough volunteers to run the steam engine on that particular Sunday, so we rode behind the Plymouth diesel switcher. They have a pretty impressive HO model railroad. The two volunteers that were running the museum that day... More

I especially liked the dentists office, it really showed you how much progress we have made in medicine since then. The train ride was pretty nifty too. They sure have crammed a lot of interesting history into this place, and you can tell that the people I who work here love their jobs. I highly recommend it, come early, it... More

A history enthusiast's dream. This place is filled to the brim with historical artifacts. From the wedding gowns from different eras, the optometry equipment, the dollhouses downstairs...there is something eye-catching in every single nook and cranny. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. A must see if you are at all curious about local history/copper mining/or just the early 1900s in general.

I photograph one-room schoolhouses, my hubby loves trains, and we are both history buffs. So, visiting the Houghton County Historical Museum Complex was a “must see” for us. The complex includes the red-colored Trap Rock Valley School House (1914-1940), two red cabooses, log cabin, train depot, and a variety of antique equipment. Across the street is the First Congregational Church... More

Three story museum and outside displays. Train rides on the weekend. A great collection representing the history of Houghton county and beyond. All three stories packed with items and very well labeled. Pretty location too.
