The forest is just beautiful. There are lots of things to see and experience. Waterfalls, hikes, drives and nature center.

We visited each of the water falls along the way, easy parking, some were more difficult to get to but each had their own beauty. Nice morning activity, enjoyed the walk amongst the trees.

Great place to visit, especially for young children. Good orientation to the wildlife of this national forest and information on the Upper Peninsula as well as forestry conservation. Easy stop and interest to all ages. I've enjoyed bringing foreign visitors as they get a good...More

First of all, we had a difficulty orienting ourselves given the description of the "Ottawa National Forest". This review actually pertains to "Black River Trail" which is a true attraction near Ironwood, MI. So, geographic details first: you start at GPS location 46.5206558, -90.0966256 and...More

We took the trail from Black River Harbor in the morning for the best view of the falls. It’s about a mile and totally worth it! The view of the falls from the observation deck is underwhelming. So hiking up from the west side of...More

After the disappointment of Copper Peak we were sure glad our innkeeper pointed the falls out to us on the area map. It’s a short walk from the parking lot through the forest to the each of the falls. The stairs were well built but...More

Absolutely loved the trails, waterfalls, and parks in the forest. There are several waterfalls that are 1/8 to 3/4 of a miles from the parking lot. Many include lots of stairs and paths full of tree roots. But go. The walk back through the forest...More

On the Black River Road when you are in the Ottawa National forest, there are parking stops for the last three miles of the falls. Each of the falls has a parking lots take which can only handle limited number of cars. I am guessing...More

We explored the five waterfalls along the Black River scenic byway. The walks to them aren't long but are pleasantly challenging. It's almost a spiritual experience to witness such unspoiled beauty. A can't miss for nature lovers.

Some trails are short and others are longer. All of them say the distance at the beginning of the hike. Keep in mind in many places there are loads of stairs.
