I thought I was in shape...

The Laketown Beach is along the shores of Lake Michigan, but is on the other side of a huge sand dune. There are stairs and boardwalks, but the high winds through the year fill the steps and boardwalks. It is a lot of stairs up and a lot of stairs down (sorry I lost track of how many). The sand... One of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan, worth a trip any season. We live in Holland, never travel in the summer, it's too wonderful here

Exhilarating walk up & then down over 200-300 steps (and sand) to get to the each at lakeside along Lake Michigan. Great exercise and great view

South Haven has an awesome beach and a great place to swim. Love this beach and scene. Will definitely go here several times per year.

The picture in the travel brochure did not do the height of the stairs justice. There are a LOT of steps to climb, but there are places to sit and rest along the way and the beach itself was really nice. It was small and quiet with families having fun. Nice free Lake Michigan beach.

This is not the beach you go to for a quick visit. As the other reviews have stated, it is a workout to get to and fro. And since you'll want to stay for awhile, you'll need to be carrying supplies. We took an umbrella, chairs, a cooler and a beach bag...and we handled it pretty well. I was actually... More

Yes, there are a lot of stairs to climb, but the views of the lake are beautiful from the top of the dunes. Beach area is small but clean and uncrowded. Limited but free parking, no life guard, trash cans, or restroom facilities on the beach, only a port-o-potty in the parking lot. Nice beach off the beaten path, great... More

Climb up the steps and run down the dune to spend the day on this small but lovely beach on the south side of Holland. What goes down must go up, so, after you've enjoyed the lake and the beach, be ready to climb up lots of steps to get back to the parking lot. It's tiring but worth it.... More

Living close to the lake, we used to frequent this beach all the time. Yes, it is a workout to get to but used to be well worth it. One of our favorites! The beach was quite large and the sand beautiful. I was at the beach today, and it is not what is used to be. Most of the... More

If you like to climb stairs, this is the park for you! If not, go to the state park where you also have the benefit of the pier and views of the big red lighthouse!
