The brochure said it was named one of the most beautiful trails in the country. Not even close! The trail is about 20 miles one way. It is a mostly paved, moderate trail with some challenging hills. A few miles are crushed rock. Parts of...More

Go to the welcome center in Empire and get all the info on the park. Very helpful park ranger. Drove the Pierce-Stocking look which was very informative and had great views of the dunes and Lake Michigan. Also hiked the Empire Bluffs. Worth the 1...More

Went on a cooler day in August. The weather was perfect for going barefoot in the sand up the dunes. We avoided the heat but still worked up a thirst so make sure to bring a backpack with plenty of water. If you plan on...More

Climbing the dunes or just enjoying the views. We have been many times and it never disappoints regardless of the weather. Lake Michigan is gorgeous and the sand dunes are unique both as tree covered hills and beautiful golden sand.

Lots to do in the park. Things are spread out so you need a car or bike. No park service transportation is offered. Good family fun. Lots of exercise...hiking, swimming, dune climbing, biking, museums or just sitting on the beach. Great time.

Loved the dune climb...we made it about 2.5 miles in. Would do again, with this time going all the way. Well worth it, and absolutely stunning vistas.
