If you are visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes, no visit would be complete without driving the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. 9 or 10 pull offs along the 7 mile route that get you the true flavor of this special area.

Take your time, your camera, and be prepared to enjoy. 2 hours plus. Do not do the dune climb unless your are 100% certain of your physical condition for THE CLIMB BACK UP. Everything else is OKAY and well worth it.

Take water, sunscreen, and your energy to hike this trail. Do not do the Dune Climb. This hike will give you the same views as the Dune Climb with a lot less effort. The hike is 1.5 miles(?). It is located at stop #4. Parking...More

This was our second drive. We enjoyed the look-outs we'd experienced before, and like before, we'd picked beautiful days to see this wonderful dune. But, this year, we walked the Cottonwood Trail. What an enriching trip! We really experienced the dune, walking in the sand,...More

The best part of the drive is the scenic overlook at stop 9/10. The overlook is just a short walk from the parking lot and the views of the lake and dunes are amazing. That stop makes the drive worth while.

This was a fun and beautiful adventure through Sleeping Bear Dune National Park. There are several points of interest but we only stopped at a few. The most impressive two were of Glen Lake and the other was the sand dune overlooking Lake Michigan. If...More

The area is north of the early Spring Line. As has been mentioned, Spring comes differently in Michigan. Today, we expect to see some rain/sleet/snow in that area. In a couple of days, we will have 50F-60F degree days. When... More
