I'm from Ohio and my favorite place to go is the UP of Michigan. Ohio should take a lesson from Michigan, clean restrooms, friendly staff. Van Riper State park was as good as it gets. Restrooms and showers were cleaned every day , staff kept...More

I might be a little biased since I grew up near this park and still live only a couple miles away, but I’ve been in State parks in many states and this tops all I’ve been to. Huge white pines throughout the campground and picnic...More

We have a large annual family camp out, reserve the loop on the north side of the highway, and most often the cabin as well. It works out great for our needs, though highway traffic can be loud at night.

Nice lake, good swimming beach, good place to kayak. Nice trails to walk (6 mi). Bathrooms and showers clean. Quiet. Good boat launch. We were here in late July and did not have any mosquitoes except on the hiking trails.

We enjoy Michigan State Parks, most of which are very well kept and have wonderful locations. Van Riper is no exception, It is clean, nicely wooded and has a newer bathhouse which is well maintained. It has one half mile of frontage on Lake Michigamme...More

We are just wrapping up a 4 day camping trip at Van Riper State Park, and it has been wonderful! We are a family of tent campers, so we stayed in the "rustic" portion. It was clean, wooded, and very close to the boat launch....More
