A good place to see, but the staff is not very helpful. Even though we mentioned that we were going to see other sites in the Calumet area, the male staff working that day failed to mention that there was combo ticket. It would have helped, especially for a family of 6. Wouldn't recommend this museum for that reason. Otherwise,... More

The museum is much more than just learning about the huge copper mining industry that started in the 1840's through the 1950's in the Keewenaw Penninsula. It also showed its influence on healthcare, education, entertainment, and the various cultures that worked in the mines. Calumet almost became the state capitol in Michigan in the early 1900's it was such a... More

This is a nice little museum in Calumet right off of US 41. Your tour starts off with a 15 minute film on the mining industry in the area. You then walk through displays that depict the life of the miners and others that lived in the area. They have many interesting artifacts from that era that really show you... More

Lots to learn here about the history of copper mining and the way of life back then. The guides are very well informed. The displays are very well done. It held my grandsons' interest, the are 9 and 11. At the end of the tour they each received a free piece of copper to take home.

This is a very well done museum that tells the story of copper mining in the local area. A good location across the street from the Keweenaw National Historical Park Visitors Center.

The curators and archivists did a spectacular job with this museum. The displays were very well done. For such a small town museum, the detail and professionalism of the displays were surprising and thrilling. Very well done. We loved it.

Make sure to spend time in Calumet and Fort Wilkins. The National Historical display and Cooper town are all worth the time. They are excellent and are interactive which helps with younger travelers. You knew about the 1913 strike or the Italian dance hall disaster or how Michigan got the UP?
