Don't go looking for the museum where it is shown on the map as being north of Baraga. It is actually located well South of Baraga along Hwy 41 at the town/village of Alberta. I would like to visit this museum, but unfortunately it is closed. To quote Michigan Tech who operate this site: "Unfortunately the electrical systems, walkways, and lighting in the sawmill do not meet minimum standards for safety for visitors, and sadly we have had to close the sawmill to public visits at this time. We have begun the process of assessing these issues. One part will be ensuring appropriate historical preservation and in some cases we might not be able to ensure the sawmill is both preserved and accessible. Another part is raising the necessary funds for preservation and visitor-friendly upgrades, and we would greatly appreciate your support."

This is a sleeper site. It never seemed "open" when we drove past. One day we stopped to figure it out. We stopped in the admin building and were welcomed to a slice of history we had never seen. This is not the most exciting event you will ever experience. It will leave you with lasting knowledge.

This place is a nice piece of history. The sawmill is interesting to tour and you find out about a whole other side of Henry Ford that I knew nothing about. The gift shop is folk of artisan work by Dave who does beautiful furniture pieces using birdseye maple. We spent as much time in the gift shop as in the sawmill.

Rented one of the houses here for a snowmobile trip. The house was ok , older homes in need of some tlc but the price was great. For guys up on a trip you can't beat the ease of having a kitchen bunch of rooms at great cost.. The staff was very nice and helpfull. The gift shop was also pretty cool, nice woodworking for sale, neat little section of rock for sale too. It's a piece of history that is worth looking at.

I visited the knothole gift shop at the Ford Village in Alberta this week and was AMAZED and inspired by the awesome woodworks there. The one of a kind rockers and dining table and chairs are OUT OF THIS WORLD! I'll be back.
