We were headed to Sturgeon River Gorge but the road was closed once we were almost there. So we went to Silver Mountain instead. The stairs are closed too, so we hiked the long trail up. It’s not too far of a hike. It’s pretty. The view is nice from the top. The view on top of Bald Mountain is better. And the crow from a mountain just north of that is even better. I couldn’t begin to give directions to either of those.

The stairs are closed now but you can hike the well marked trail up to the summit. It's a bit of a climb but not to hard of a hike. I actually think the trail is better than the stairs anyway. Some of the rocks were slippery under our feet. You can see the river below from one point and a few tree covered valleys. The views are definately worth the hike. Dogs are allowed. We went on a Wednesday and had the entire place to ourselves.

This is not an easy hike for older folks (many stairs), but the view is wonderful, especially in the fall! We often took our kids hiking there. They loved it!

we visit silver mountain, canyon falls and pricket dam every fall on our color tour, you need to be in pretty good shape to hike the hundreds of steps and rocky hillsides - but well worth it.

It is a little hard to reach - a few miles on gravel roads. The climb is short to a spectacular view. Near Prickett Dam. Late September is best for fall colors.
