Gore Place is a 50-acre country estate in the city, a grand mansion steeped in history, a working farm, and an invaluable community resource.

The Gores built their home in 1806. With the help of a Parisian architect, Rebecca planned the Federal-style mansion — a rare opportunity for a woman of the time. The Gores filled the house with locally made furniture and beautiful art, much of which remains in place today.

Gore Place is located at 52 Gore St. in Waltham, just nine miles from the heart of Boston. The grounds are open to the public as a community resource.

Tours: Monday through Friday on the hour at 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, and 2 pm

Saturdays on the hour at 12, 1, 2, and 3 pm

This is a historic spot to visit in leisure, both meandering around the grounds and touring the homestead itself. The tour guides are great ... knowledgeable and entertaining. The Gore Place is interesting in any season, as the grounds have exhibits of traditional seasonal activities, and the house is decorated for the seasons. The Christmas season is beautiful! The location... More

Touring the Gore Place is an extremely authentic, educational and rewarding experience. This is the actual home of our past governor Christopher Gore. I would recommend touring this museum or attending one of the many seasonal events. The summer brings concerts and the famous sheep shearing event. The Gore has a great turnout which is met by fabulous volunteers and... More

Had an excellent guided tour. Unlike some docents we have had, this one was extremely knowledgeable. Nice feature is a notebook in each room giving more detail on each of the furnishings. Very instructive.

Went during my lunch break to March book fair. It was the last day of the fair and they had moved it from the carriage house to the manor. Once I called I was told that. Man who let me into the mansion was nice and he let me peruse freely. He gave me a tour of the carriage house... More

Sheep sheering festival is fun as is snowshoeing. If there aren't any activities going it is a little dull.

Great for a Christmas Tea with Santa. I enjoyed this event with my sister, daughter, and grandchildren. A lovely afternoon Tea with Santa. You are able to take pictures with Santa and listen to him read "The night before Christmas while children sit and gather around him. My only complaint is, if you do not have enough people in your... No visit to Waltham is complete without a stroll around the grounds of Gore Place. It's a lovely, maintained place that will give you a strong sense of how the wealthy merchant class lives, back in the day... way, way, back. Don't miss the greenhouse and the variety of interesting plants, I do so wish that some of the ones... More

Well, what can I say? I used to live here during the sixties, when my mom was curator, so I saw Gore Place grow into a spectacular restoration, in large part due to her initial efforts to publicize it.

This is a great family place for fun events. Former home of a previous Massachusetts governor. Mansion is modestly pretty. The grounds host special events such as sheep-shearing contests and other festivals. Good for urban children to learn about rural history.

You wouldn't believe a house like this, with such rolling grounds, can be maintained in an area as suburban as Waltham... but it is. A gem behind walls, the Gore Place hosts many wonderful events over the course of each year, giving back to the community every step of the way. From pumpkin slinging in the fall to sheep sheering...
