I didn't know Daniel Chester French designed the Lincoln Memorial. The grounds are beautiful. We visited at a time when there was an exhibit on the grounds of really bizarre contemporary "sculptures." I had no idea that you could take a bunch of colored plastic...More

found this by accident. Great hidden treasure of history...studio where Lincoln memorial statue was created. Lots of interesting stories about its creation (such as the need to alter it due to the effect of uplighting!). Easy trip from Stockbridge, and well worth the time.

You can spend a long time here if you tour the studio, the residence, the barn gallery, and the gardens but the studio is the "must see" especially if your time is tight. The studio gives you a real feel for how this artist worked...More

Chesterwood has several models of the Lincoln Memorial statue and a complete history of Daniel Chester French, the sculptor (in case you didn't know). The house is beautiful but for the extra bucks it may not be worth it.

A very short distance from Norman Rockwell Museum, this is the home of sculptor Daniel Chester French. It houses exhibits of other artists in many different mediums.

Spent about hour and a half here. Definitely worth a visit if in the area. Take advantage of the discount if visiting other area sights. Everyone met friendly and eager to answer any questions. The view from house is gorgeous.

This is the summer home of the sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial, among many other commissions. The small museum at the visitors center was very well done and a good introduction to the site. Although only the first floor of the home is open at...More
