Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'm sure when the construction is finished it will be better, but the roads were torn up and blocked off. Buses were rerouted. They are really reworking these roads. Some really old, not nice signs on shops mixed with some really nice-looking, classy signs. It felt safe the night I was there.

As the neighborhood becomes more gentrified, the restaurants are changing. There is not Gracie's ice cream that is sporadically open but somehow stays in business and all sorts of little festivals during the year. There is one in late summer that is supper fun with booths and dancing/juggling/acrobatic performances.
There are a lot of music clubs like Thunder Road and small bars that have regular live music such as Bull McCabes that are fun to pop into for a beer and a few songs. Or if you got sucked in by Sawyer Lawson or Ali McGuirk playing you stay until 1am! (I realize you may not know these local talents)
Be careful however since there is little parking. If you park at the Market Basket and go elsewhere you will likely get a ticket or towed!

Union Square is up and coming, but it's not quite there yet. They should have a movie theatre, as well as everything else.

We went to the event and took partying to the streets with Timberland at the Inman & Union Square Neighborhood Immersion. We started at the Timberland and Brooklyn Brewery Trailhead, a pop-up bar, shop and our official HQ for the day.
Enjoyed beer and food at these places: Hops n Scotch, Atwoods Tavern, Trina's Starlite
Beers on us at The Independent, Thirsty Scholar
+ Black Chocolate Stout ice cream in a souvenir Black Chocolate Stout Mug at Gracie's Ice Cream
Big Bottle samples and VIP prices on beer and cheese at Inman Square Wine & Spirits
Jerry's Liquors
Union Square Donuts
It was fun and I loved the eclectic vibe of Union Square!

Union Square is on the upswing, but still has the variety (architecturally, cuisine-wise, etc) to please and intrigue. Especially in the food, and convenience store variety and experience. DunkinDonuts and one end, high end Union Square donuts at the other, Mexican, Portuguese, Indian, Chinese, American bars/restaurants.
Anyone complaining about lack of public trans must have a fear of convenient bus service from T stops (Lechmere, Sullivan, Davis, Harvard, and Central squares)
Warning: No Walgreens or CVS (yet)

Great selection of restaurants and a cool music venue (Thunder Road, NOT PA's), but frequently crowded with beer snobs and hipsters in the good weather. The farmer's market is above average, and the Fluff Festival is always a lot of fun.

Union Square is a Davis Square wannabe, but from time to time has popular events. Farmers Market every Sat AM in season. They have a Marshmellow Fluff Event (sweet treat invented here) with bands, food, and vendors. There are a couple of restaurants, Mexican & the Independent. Area probably of not much interest to a tourist in for a short time. Locals swarm to Market Basket for value grocery shopping a few blocks away.

I love Union Square and it has some of my favorite places (Machu Picchu, Backbar, etc.) It's just a shame it's hard to get to by public transportation!
