The dioramas are incredibly detailed. Fields and farms and forests. Miniature trees with each leaf and branch individually sculpted from copper sheet and wire. The backdrop paintings of sky and distant hills are drop dead gorgeous with fascinating use of forced perspective to give the illusion of space. The scenery is portrayed in different kinds of light and times of... More

I always wanted to visit and finally went today. It was great if you are curious about the New England landscape and forestry practices in this area. It is a very educational place for students.

We literally just walked into the building. While it is open to the public seems like walking into a private building. The dioramas are gorgeous in detail setting out how the landscape has changed over the years. The detail in the models of trees and people, and even a 1940's fire truck is just astounding. You can walk around virtually alone and view the historical dioramas about the forest and the research work. Free admission but only a jerk wouldn't leave a donation!

Some museums are for the public. The Fisher Museum in Petersham is very good, but as one reviewer has already noted "it's the wrong place," if you're looking for food, music, and lots of people.... The Fisher Museum will interest environmentalists, historians, preservationists, and some scientists. Harvard students and graduates should visit the Fisher Museum, if they're in the area.... More

This museum is run by Harvard University but nowhere near the university. I liked trees and nature so I like this. If you are looking for a tourist attraction with food, music and lots of people, you really came to the wrong place! This is a peaceful educational museum.
