The fastest and most beautiful way to get to Tatev Monastery. 12 minutes at an altitude of 320 meters above the river gorge and you are there. Buy tickets in advance and take seats near the windshield; while driving, there will be an audio tour in Armenian, English and Russian. They let you in strictly according to the time on your tickets, so don’t be late. Tickets in August 2023 cost 7,000 drams in both directions and the money goes towards the restoration of the monastery.

The Wings of Tatev is another project of Armenian controversial figure Ruben Vardanyan as part of the Tatev Revival Project. The alternative is driving up a 40min serpentine road to Tatev, but now this aerial tramway cuts it down to 12 comfortable min, while offering some spectacular views on the way. Being over 5km long and dangling 300m over the valley, it is listed in the Guiness Book of Records.
I was very lucky : the only passenger in my cabin and a clear day - but I understand that rarely happens and it can get hectic with long waiting times.

Excellent unforgettable excursion, beautiful places, special thanks to the driver Levon for his kind heart and professionalism! We were afraid to ride the cable car and asked to stay with the driver. Levon took us along the road behind the group to beautiful places, explained things along the way and stopped us to admire the spring. Thank you that there are people like Levon!

"Wings of Tatev" is a 5,7 km aerial cable car connecting the village of Halidzor to awesome "Tatev Monastery". The longest non-stop double track cable car in the world! The ride takes 12 minutes and gives the sensation of flying over the gorge of River Vorotan, with amazing views of the valley below, its villages and old abandoned buildings. Highly recommended. Would love to come back when it snows and go on the ride again.

The Wings of Tatev is a cableway between Halidzor and the Tatev monastey.. It is the longest reversible aerial tramway and holds the Guinness World Record for Longest non-stop double track. I have been in more that 40 different cable cars around rhe world but for some strange reason this was the scariest. Besides this the cable car literally scraped the side of the apparatus while in motion and everyone was bit scared. When we came off and I looked at it you could have seen the scratches on the side of the car. Nonetheless , the ride was epic and the view of the canyon and surrounding mountains were just breathtaking. It took more than 4 hoirs drive from Yereven to this site. Iwould recommend this to all visitors..100%

Its the worlds longest ropeway and while I was on business trip to Armenia took time out to ensure I visited this world famous place.

It was freezing and temperatures around zero but once we reached TATEV from yerevan, the capital city in about 4 hours , the 12 minute journey was mind boggling. The lady at the door help was very polite in explaining minute details.
We travelled through scary heights but the ropeway mechanism was worldclass with seats and enough space to take panaromic and memorable photos.
Once you reach the other end, you can visit the historic and famous old monastery for which they allow you 30 minutes which is comfortable time to return back to the ropeway for your return to the starting point.

If in Armenia, please dont miss TATEV and it will remain one of your life time fond memories.

We visited this place during August. The climate was typical summer weather. This place is located about 250 kilometers from Yerevan city. The drive is really beautiful passing through the beautiful mountains neighboring Turkey and Azerbaijan. The scenic beauty from the cable car is breathtaking which passes through the two mountain ranges and some old settlements . The total length of the cable carb is about 5.8 KM which recorded as the longest cable car I the world by Guinness Book of World Records. This facility is with visiting and value for the money.

My advice for my fellow passengers that if you are staying in Yerevan it’s better to leave early like 6.00 A.M. so that on the way back you can visit jurmuk waterfalls and city. You can come back approximately by 10. PM. Please ask your driver to block the time of using the cable car over telephone. You need attest two hours to spend to visit the cathedral located at the other side where cable car ends.

We have young kids so didn't visit Tatev on a day trip and how glad we were of that! It is a long drive ( approx 4 hours from Yerevan) with so much else to see on the way so we made it into a 3 day trip - Yerevan, Areni, Jermuk (overnight), Karahunj, Khndzoresk and then stayed close to Tatev, and visited Tatev on the last day and drive back... Even that was rushed, would have liked to stay in Goris too if planned better
Tatev Wings are a must, very well run and safe! The views are amazing and the Tatev monastery at the end the best reward.
Few tips:
- Wings of Tatev gets super busy so always pre-book. You can purchase tickets online but note that if you have kids you have to definitely call them so they save a spot for them. This isn't communicated well on the website so when we got there there was no room for our two kids and there were another 3 families with same issues
- don't be late... Don't assume you can get on the next one, it's probably booked out
- clean toilets and a nice cafe/ restaurant on site if you get there early
- Allow plenty of time to explore Tatev monastery once you get there.... It's beautiful!

One of the longest and highest cable card rides in the world, the destination (Tatev Monastery) is worth the long ride (about five hours) from the capital of Yerevan. Absolute must visit!
