A Great Little Mountain in Need of Better Management

Let me start with the positives, of which there are many - this is a great little family mountain. The staff is very helpful and just plain nice, always ready with a smile and a... read more

We first started coming to Butternut when we lived in Connecticut and our kids learnt to ski here. Having moved back to England we still come back, every other year as the skiing is good and we also love the area. Just had a good few days skiing on well groomed slopes. Staff are friendly and the mountain is well... More

Let me start with the positives, of which there are many - this is a great little family mountain. The staff is very helpful and just plain nice, always ready with a smile and a friendly greeting. I felt entirely comfortable having my 9 year old take a few runs by herself. Since the mountain isn't too large, it's not... More

We have not skied in many years so we took a lesson. Our instructor, John was wonderful. Great value with lift ticket, lesson and rental. Staff very nice. Mountain well groomed, with nice wide long green trails. Views of the Berkshires were beautiful. Looking forward to returning!

I was worried that because the mountain is small that the skiing would not be great. I was pleasantly surprised though. The runs are interesting and of decent length. Since there has not been much snow I was not sure how the conditions would be but they made snow and there were no bald spots. Overall I had a great... More

It was my first time on skis since I was a kid, my husband's first stime ever. We signed up for the "first time" ski package - and so glad we did. Brendan was our instructor, very patient and kind - he gave us the tools to use as we practised the day away. Everyone was very friendly, and being... More

I last wrote a review of Butternut some years ago and thought I'd update it. Butternut remains a very intermediate mountain with plenty of trails for beginners and even a few black diamonds . The snow making, grooming, and as a result snow cover are always unmatched. Butternut usually closes down around early April. Since skiing mostly on weekdays over... More

I went skiing here yesterday and today. For $25 midweek non-holiday, you can't beat it. The grooming is nice. Out of the employees were friendly but the first person I encountered was the lift ticket woman and let me tell you...she was not only unfriendly but she was on the phone on a personal call and had me wait a... This is another of the many small hills on the east coast that has been equipped for skiing. As the other places within driving distance from NYC, it gets very crowded in the weekends. The lifts are kind of old and slow and it often takes a good 20 minutes to get up the hill (between waiting and travel time).... More
