If you're looking for a good local ski area, not too far from NYC, Butternut is good for couples and families. It's easily accessible to lots of motels and inns. It has good trails.

Nice, fairly quaint. The kids' club/daycare is not conveniently located. Pleasant environment. No shuttle around parking lots.

We have been enjoying skiing and snowboarding (and tubing) at Ski Butternut for MANY many years, and -while it is a relatively small mountain, they do a VERY nice job of providing a very nice Family-oriented experience

We decided to ski here before we went home. The lines were all managable and the kids had a blast. The only thing that could be fixed is the rental area. It moves at an average speed, but returns are crazy! We are definitely purchasing...More

Beer and wine available in the upper lodge which is only open on weekends and holidays. It's a cafeteria, not a bar, though

Snow tubing is available in a separate Tubing Area from the ski slopes (meaning you can't conveniently ski in or out of the snow tubing area). It features a "magic carpet" conveyor up a single hill which seems pretty small... More
