Rocky Neck Art Colony is a relatively small and very pretty street that is tourist shop after tourist shop. There is plenty of kitsch for those who want it. We were there on a Tuesday and the crowd was very manageable but during the weekends...More

Many galleries line this pretty area. You can tour the galleries and stop for a nice meal along the way. If the weather isn't cooperating, this is a great activity.

It is a stretch to call this an Art Colony, but it provides a great view of a little bay with ships and typical New England style homes along the shore line.

The area has something for everyone interested in art. We found the proprietors, mostly the artists themselves, to be informative, friendly, and conversant in their area. It was a lovely place to walk around on a beautiful summer afternoon.

Back in the day Rocky Neck in Gloucester was an artist colony. There was jazz in a hotel that long ago burned down. It is still a terrific destination for scenic dining with a harbor view. In season it is busy and hard to find...More

We stayed in a converted sail loft in Rocky Neck when we visited Gloucester. It is a beautiful area with low traffic and great views out over the harbor.
