I called ahead to enlist their help in researching a book I'm writing. From their archives they supplied me with books, photos, maps, and a great collection of old newspapers. They were extremely helpful and resourceful. They allowed me to photocopy or photograph many of their items. Our visit was actually in 2013, so it would be well to learn... More

The history of Martha's Vineyard on display. A short walk from downtown Edgartown. A great rainy day or any other day visit

It wasn't the buildings we went to that struck us on during our time with the Historical Society, but the quality of tour guide we had access to. Most societies are comprised of local volunteers who have some knowledge drawn from bullet point note cards they memorized prior to taking on the job, but when you get past the obvious... More

This museum stayed open late for me and my parents and I actually learned quite a bit about the island, because it had interesting max cool things to teach me like how to tie knots. I am going on thirteen and it sure grabbed my attention. I am sure that it will grab your jaded tweenager's interest as well. PS... More

Spoke on the phone with Beau in the Library. VERY knowledgable gentleman, loved hearing about what he knows. Can't wait to meet him and learn more about this beautiful island!

Lots of information about MV. Great activities for small children, very knowledgeable docents. This was my second visit to MV--wish I had done this tour on the first visit--it sets a context for many of the things that you see on the Vineyard.

Everything was great here. We arrived just before Memorial Day weekend so it was not very crowded and had a blast before all of the tourists arrived. Overall a great place to visit.

Our last day at MV was during the heat wave. Our family had to check out of our hotel and we had the entire day to stay before meeting the ferry. The temperature was over 95F. We asked the hotel concierge service for recommendations for what we should do on the island while remaining cool. The concierge service called the... More

I have been traveling to the vineyard for a while now, and had never gone to the MV museum until this weekend. I went by myself on a mini-self guided tour of Edgartown first then went over to the historical society/museum. The lawn was well kept and had a few beautiful trees and such. There was also a lighthouse, carriages,... More
