Overview
More
The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

A casual fairly easy stroll down the beach to the light. Great views of Edgartown Harbor. Not too much near it unless you are staying at the hotel. Seems like it would be a cool wedding venue if that was ppermitted.

The walk up water street is the epitome of Martha's Vineyard. The lighthouse didn't disappoint. So pretty, calm, relaxing once you're out there.

So lovely! Really nice paths out to the lighthouse. Nice to see all the bricks with names on them. Plenty of fishermen all around and boats coming in and out. Just scenic and New England feeling!

The light house is adorable, but don't go to just see the light house -- go and walk around Edgartown. It is a very unique town with lots of charm. It is much nicer that Oak Bluffs. Our tour guide told us that it is...More

Just in town for the day and wanted to take a long stroll, so we walked out to this lovely lighthouse. Locals were very friendly and helpful on history. We strolled the beach, collected shells, and spent a few minutes relaxing on the lighthouse porch....More

While I never went out to the lighthouse itself I did take some nice photos of the location from the road. If you are in the area this makes for some nice photos.

We walked from our hotel up a couple of blocks to see the many outstanding houses in Edgartown. We walked parallel to the harbor to the east until we came to a small park with benches where we took a short rest, then walked down...More

Hello, to get to Martha's Vineyard from Yarmouth you will need to drive from Yarmouth, MA to Woods Hole, MA, which is about an hour, and then get on a Steam Ship Authority boat, which will take you on a 45 minute ferry boat... More

Not a far walk at all. I'm in my 70's and had no problem. Easy walk and lovely homes with great architecture. Enjoy!

Brooke, Do you mean the Harborview Hotel that is located across from the Edgartown LIghthouse? It depends where you take the ferry to—closest would be Oak Bluffs rather than Vineyard Haven. From there you can grab a MV bus... More
