The hiking trails could be less gravel. But all in all, a really nice day. This time of year you can see lots of different kinds of wildlife due to the fall weather. The Canadian Geese are plentiful and so are the white tail deer. You can spend hours just observing all of the wildlife. The hike isn't that bad... More

We have been bringing our two boys here since they were little. It is a great place to hike and reconnect with nature. Park staff is friendly. The trails are excellent for dogs (on leashes) and it is just a nice way to spend an 'unplugged" afternoon or early morning.

We have been here several times over the past few years, and we never fail to see something interesting. There are many deer roaming the sanctuary and the birds in residence vary with the season. On our June trip we saw Three adult Osprey, one of which was tending at least one (maybe two) chick on the nest. We also... More

A beautiful place to hike, and a really neat nature center. We were rather offended however, that the employee did not even both to greet us in the nature center.

I went here with my three kids here early March on a visit to the nature center and we ventured on two trails Paw Paw and Mounds. We can't wait to come back and do more!

I enjoyed my visit to the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary. It was my second visit. I thought it was a beautiful environment. I was able to find out all of the information that I needed on birds and I took many pictures to use with my class. I highly recommend this as a place to visit for parents and children as... More

We visited this park as part of Park Quest 2015. It was really hot out that day so we didn't hike as much as we would have on a cooler day. The nature center is awesome! There were so many displays and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. There was a lot of hands-on stuff for kids to try... More

I have been here many times - I have visited the Sanctuary several places and it is great to go into the building to read and pictures about the wildlife that lives there. You see fields of corn in the summer that is grown for their food and it is a beautiful place. I loved going there as a little... More

Merkle is an excellent bird sanctuary that our Audubon Club likes to do at least once a year. The trails are well maintained and there is an excellent center with a deck that looks out over the fields of birds gathering for a winter's stay. Bring a lunch and stay a while. It is a very peaceful place to enjoy... More
