This is a small park with a small lake and small campgrounds, set into a forest of tall pine trees, with a short drive to nearby attractions. My son and I used this park as a jumping off point to a weekend of kayaking and fishing on the Savage River Reservoir (wonderful!). We made the mistake of camping in the... More

A couple of buddies and I used the rifle range here. $5 with several nice benches and distances to 100 yards.

Loved our two night stay in cabin 11! Cabin is huge and overlooks the lake. Used the outdoor fire ring close by for fires at night and indoor stove late night or early am. Hiked and fished during the day with our 3 children. Didn't want to leave! Will be back!

We took our 11 week old here this past weekend on his first adventure. Stayed in Cabin 9. We loved the cabin and it was cozy with the wood stove. The lake was gorgeous, nice hiking trails and so quiet. Great place for an outdoor stroller. Quick ride to Oakland for Saturday farmers market, and close to Grantsville for Spruce... More

I stopped by to kill some time waiting for my hotel. I wish I had looked into this park more. There were a lot of covered picnic tables, and bbq areas. There was also a really nice play area for the kids. What surprised me was when we walked over to the lake that it had a small sandy beach... More

We visited this park with my daughter and family as they were doing the Maryland Park Quest. We had to walk some of their trails and found a diverse and beautiful area. From deep forest to meadows to stream side the trails were well marked and easy enough for the four year old to travel. There is a very nice... More

We loved camping here. The park was well maintained and quiet. Beach is small, so it can be crowded during holidays. Hiking trails are not difficult so kids can have fun. Only minor flaw is that some camping sites are closely located and you can't find it out until you get there. Overall, it was very pleasant camping.

Have enjoyed a spring fishing trip there over the past several years. Savage River area has unique tundra foliage and fairly secluded fishing opportunities for that time of year.

Perhaps one of the nicer parks I've visited during the winter season. There are lots of options to which way you can explore the land during the winter. There are rentals for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The staff is extremely helpful with getting you in the right gear for your body type, explaining the best trails suited for your... More
