The National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, a Catholic shrine devoted to Our Blessed Mother Mary, is a place of worship, pilgrimage, evangelization and reconciliation. This beautiful mountain shrine features one of the oldest American replicas of the Lourdes shrine in France, built about two decades after the apparition of Mary at Lourdes in 1858, and attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year from all over the world. It offers the occasion for a deepening conversion, a step forward in the journey to God, with Mary as the model for that journey.

Parking is down the hill, but there is a nice drop off area for those with limited mobility, just drop off and then park down the hill. Start in the gift shop- I can spend a half hour here easily. Head out and wander the...More

A wonderful visit to this mountainside shrine for Mary. Our small group was blessed to have mass in the tiny Corpus Christi Chapel. Afterwards we prayed the rosary at the Grotto. Plenty of places and things to see and contemplate here. The natural setting and...More

We have tried to stop here several times but always seem to get there right as it's closing. This trip just happened to be on February 11th which is the big feast day of the shrine so it was a little bit crowded and parking...More

I'll admit it: we didn't want to be in Washington DC for inaugural day. I had attended every inauguration (Reagan, G.H.W Bush, Clinton, G.W. Bush, Obama) since I had been living in Washington....but this one would have been too much. So we decided to clear...More

A relaxing walk also brings great conversations with parent and child combos- pondering type questions. We also liked the walking rosary and the healing waters.

Pleasant and spiritually refreshing shrine on the mountain. Not recommended for small children as silence is key at this lovely place.

Thank you in advance for answering. For blessing the water at the Grotto, are the Grotto Chaplains nearby to bless the bottles that you bring and fill with water, or do you have to go to the chapel/church? Thanks.

Yes, the chaplains are available to bless the Grotto water to make it holy. They are on the grounds Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 3 pm. Stop by the Miller Visitor's Center and staff can assist you.
