We stayed in Tylerton for three days. There is not much in the way of lodging for tourists, which is a drawback, but we had rented the House of Silent Music, which had a great kitchen and well-appointed rooms. There are no restaurants in Tylerton that serve dinner, so the house owner recommended an islander who cooked a delicious dinner... More

The office where you book in was well sign posted. The “welcome” was a bit off-hand. Their card reader wasn’t working, so we had to scrabble around for cash to buy the tickets. No apology – it seemed like they thought it was my fault..... There is a visitor centre close to where the boat is docked – when we... More

Once beautiful island has become shabby. Lots of run down houses with overgrown yards. There is nothing really to see or do, except swat at the flies and mosquitoes. There is a very small museum which may or may not be open. Don't expect much and maybe you won't be disappointed.

The boat ride over was peaceful and enjoyable. We were able to see different types of birds and enjoy the breeze. Once we got to the island, we ate lunch. The food was only mediocre. Their "shrimp tenders" are just popcorn shrimp. We shared a piece of cake, which we were excited about, and it was not at all what... More

2.5 hours on the island is too much. There's literally nothing to do there but eat mediocre lunch and good not excellent smith island cake. You can walk the sites in less than 10 minutes which are uninteresting. There are a few gift shops that sell junk like any other gift shop. We went thinking it would be a picturesque... More

I went with a group of ladies on this 1-hour cruise on the Chesapeake to Smith Island. Going there, I hoped to learn more about the island and its inhabitants. What our group did not realize until later was that the motel where you buy the boat ticket, the boat itself, and the restaurant where you dock on the island... More

This is a must do for everyone. Yes you have to arrive by boat but a day you will always remember. A step back in time a bit with all the modern luxury. Food you will never find anywhere else. People that don't know strangers. Friendly and Fun. Experience this treasure in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay!

If you are looking for peace and quiet, tranquil star-filled nights, and a laid back trip, look no further. A great little museum, friendly folks, and walkable village is a welcome retreat. Don't expect cheap souvenir shops, bikinis, or bars, as you won't find them here. You will see lots of wildlife, taste incredible crab cakes, and taste heaven on... More
