The wooded area makes you feel as if you're deep in the woods and far away from civilization.

It was a fun property to explore. Slightly smaller than I expected, but it was clearly well thought out. I enjoyed the use of the loaner binoculars, and was rewarded by seeing a few feathered friends. Their gift shop is enticing, and I couldn't help but purchase a few books from their great bookstore. It was a fun mid-morning adventure.

I live very near the Woodland Sanctuary and besides its beauty and wonderful wildlife and vegetation, the people are gracious and caring. Thanks to the proximity, I get to go there frequently. Even when I don't thanks to being close I see the most wonderful array of birds and butterflies in my back yard. I urge everyone to support its... More

This free small private Audubon park is just outside the city limits of DC off East-West Highway between Silver Spring and Chevy Chase. The grounds of this former mansion include wooded hiking trails, a small creek and pond. Spring through fall there are free beginner classes in birding. Summer day camps for the kids. A very good bookshop/ gifts and... More

I came for the geocaching and the trails and was not disappointed. I ran across a doe and two fawns and they rather seemed bored with me. I thought the one fawn was going to come up for a pat!!

The Audubon Naturalist Society (ANS) is a membership organization, although you don't have to be a member to visit or buy things in the shop. However, the advantages of membership include discounts on bird seed, and other bird related items such as books, birdhouses, cards, binoculars, etc. There is also a great monthly newsletter with listings of trips and classes... Come here for an oasis in the city; walk the trails, sit on benches and take in the area at its best. You can also visit the gift shop that has a mix of books and goods related to the core mission of the organization, which is the wonder of birds. It is also a lovely place to book a... More

If you are traveling with children or are an avid nature lover, Woodend is well worth a visit. It has acres of trails through a wooded hillside in Chevy Chase. I recently spent several relaxing hours here with my grown sons, daughter in law and small grandchildren. We were all in town for a family wedding and it offered a... More

ANS is a wonderful destination for a nature walk as it includes meadows, wetlands and deciduous forest. There is a well maintained native plant garden near the bookstore entrance. The bookstore has bird feeding supplies as well as binoculars, lenses and all sorts of books and gifts related to natural history. Consider joining the Audobon Naturalist Society as there are... Worthwhile children's and adult programs. Very good selection of bird seed and suet cakes in shop along with other bird items. Also lovely room for wedding receptions.
