You can drive most of the way from Somesville up toward Beech Cliff. The short hike is moderate, and all is worthwhile when you reach the summit - and see the Island.

I chose this as our family's first hike on our recent visit to Acadia because I wanted to be sure that all four of us had a chance to complete a hike on one of the park's ladder trails. I was determined to complete the...More

Fun hike with 4 ladders to climb before reaching the summit. It’s a short 1.8 mile hike but it is steep with a small section of rocks to climb over just before the overlook area.

Gradual ascent and beautiful beach to relax on the other side! The second half of the trail is closed so plan on turning around and coming back the fire road.

The beech cliff trail is one of Acadia classic ladder trails. Very steep first section, in fact straight up on ladders for part. However, after ascent, this is a very nice loop which is much easier on top. This is not for young kids- we...More
