For $8 per person this was a disappointing museum. Two exhibits of the formation of Acadia National Park and Allagash Wilderness. In and out in 10-15 minutes. It was such a tiny exhibit: two rooms and a corridor of photos and maps, and a car,...More

We enjoyed the two exhibits in the museum, especially the one depicting immigration in Maine. It reminded us that many of us are immigrants or born of immigrants and that people can rise above prejudice and hatred to have a good life in America with...More

I'm not from Maine but I had an hour to wait for an appointment and I like historical societies, so why not? Nice exhibit on diversity in Maine, several nice displays of materials and scrapbooks, and a nice gift shop.

Beyond the stuffy sounding name, is an exciting organization that understands that history is not always what we want but what we need. As Portland has moved into the 21st Century, the 'Face', the culture, and skin color has changed. The Maine Historical Society celebrates...More

The exhibit area is nicely done with historic maps, photos, and plans of the early days of Portland. Descriptions of major events occurring in Portland, major figures in its history and its place in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War are displayed and interesting...More
