Portland's Back Cove (not Back Bay, which people who move here from Massachusetts always call it) has a 3.5 mile trail around it with a mostly flat grade, making it popular for people of all running abilities. Many of other trails connect to it, so...More

There is absolutely nothing good about this trail for a tourist. It is a local hangout joint for joggers and walkers.

Super trail that goes around the cove. Lovely to walk, run or ride here at most times of the year. Seems very safe and enough people use this. Beautiful water and sometimes mud views.

It probably should be called Back Mud Cove as that's what it mostly is except during high tide. Still a great walking area for those so inclined and can get busy.

Great area along Back Cove to walk, bike or relax. The path is well maintained and you have continuous water and city views.

Such a great amenity in the City. Comfortable, perfect length and varied views make this a perfect walk. Could be improved surfaces but maybe that will happen eventually if more people communicate with the city.

My wife and I rented bikes at the wharf in Portland, rode around the peninsula and over the bridge to the Back Cove Trail. Nice, picturesque loop. The total ride was only about 10 miles. Great trip for a little exercise.

I was looking for a 5km morning jog on a trip to Portland. This trail was perfect for that around the bay.

It's probably about 4 miles around the trail and offers a very enjoyable walk, run, or bike ride. Great views of the cove.

You can start at the Old Port and bike a few miles on pavement to get to the Back Bay Trail. It is a hard gravel surface ( fine for road bikes) that is a little over 3 miles around Back Bay. There are other...More
