We went by this fort while on a harbor cruise and heard about it's history. What a story to hear. Long time building. We did not have time to make our way out to the fort for a flashlight tour.

More than a pretty view. Historic island and fortress in the Portland Harbor. Clear view of the island is avail@ble from visiting cruise ships.

Cool fort. Closed inside for renovations. Awesome to see by boat or long lens. Don't miss this hidden gem.

If you're looking for a quick (1-2 hour) excursion on Portland's Casco Bay, consider hiring a water taxi to take you to the often overlooked Fort Gorges. Located in the center of Portland harbor, it provides unparalled views of Casco Bay. Given the big deal...More

Enjoyably, Fort Gorges can be seen from many points of interest along the coasts of Portland and South Portland. Don't bother looking for it on a foggy day; we were unable to visit it during the morning as it was swallowed by fog. Definitely enjoyed...More

Hands down the best part of this tour was the ability to tour it yourself. Once dropped off by a small motor boat, we were given flashlights by our tour guide and told to go ahead and tour the facility as we wished. Couple of...More
