We would suggest that you not visit while the cruise ships are in! The streets, shops, restaurants, etc get so busy. You have to really shop to purchase quality items in amongst the touristy trinkets.

An easy street to walk that takes you by everything - the Portland Art Museum, Longfellow House, Eastern Cemetery, First Parish Church, lots of restaurants and if you're lucky the farmers market!

Our hotel (the Westin) was right off Congress, so we strolled around at night to find a place for dinner. There are a number of restaurants on Congress, and many loud clubs nearby, so something for everyone.

People watching, window shopping, coffee sipping. There were great places to sit and sip coffee or wine while watching the people "exhibits" stroll by. Many boutique shops to enjoy as well.

We spent a couple of evenings just walking the length and breadth of Congress Street with an eclectic mix of locals and visitors from every walk of life. Lots of shops and eateries along both sides.

There are shops and places to eat all along Congress street. I really enjoyed walking it on the way to the old Port.

If you are referring to the part of Congress street where the stores and restaurants are located, the walk is about 1/2 mile. Congress St starts just up the street from your hotel so walk up (away from the water) and turn... More
