Not for the faint of heart or unfit, definitely as difficult (i.e., "very") as advertised ....

But well worth the effort. Great views, great challenge, quite simply the best hike in the Eastern US.

If you are looking for challenge this is must do hike . As an experience hiker this is probably hardest day hike trip you can possible do in the northeast coming from someone who has hiked Mount Washington and Mount Mansfield . Just make sure you make a parking reservation to guarantee you will have a spot.

Climbing the mountain was a challenge. I was concerned that I might have problems with the new plate and pins in my ankle but they fared well during this test drive. The view from the top was amazing. definately something worth while to do

Mt. Katahdin is an amazing collection of peaks and trails to challenge everyone. The views are priceless, but take the commitment and level of required preparedness seriously.

Knife edge is my favorite trail, like walking along the top of the world, amazing views, but they are all great. It's worth the effort.

We have hiked most all of New Hampshires 4000+ footers but this mountain takes the cake. Every way up is challenging and most trails are more technical then anything else in the northeast. Not for the faint of heart, but one for the bucket list.

This mountain has been calling my Boyfriend and I for months and months. I started exercising earlier in the year but I don't think I did enough. I turned 36 just a few days before we mad the climb up the Hunt Trail to Baxter Peak. We stayed the night before and night after at Katahdin Stream Campground, which in... More

My wife and I hiked into Chimney Pond from the trailhead at Roaring Brook campground. It's 3.3 miles each way, with a 1400 foot elevation gain. The whole trail is rock and boulder strewn and requires a good level of fitness to complete. Most people find this easy as it's just the approach to the real mountain climb where you... More

Let me start by saying this hike is very intense. Worth it but intense. We took the abol trail which is a way to go without needing to do knives edge to get to baxter peak. The abol trail is newly cut below tree line due to a rerouting of the trail from landslide 2 years ago. This made even... More

I wrote my detailed review on Baxter State Park. If you plan to take Knife's Edge.... read the reviews and take it seriously. We hiked from roaring brook to chimney pond/saddle/knifes edge/helon taylor.... a good sense of accomplishment and glad to have survived. Knifes Edge is only for the serious rock climbers. Round trip was 11 hours.
