Follow the brown and white hiking figures sign to the Preserve's parking area. The trails are very clearly blazed. Trail running was difficult for this 60-something, but I found the walking good exercise. Lots of roots and small rocks were easy to negotiate at a slow pace. Lovely views of the lake and the Balanced Rock is a good photo... More

Not clearly marked, no signs but worth the time to find it. A really nice hike through the beautiful woods and then around Megunticook Lake. We took the blue route and then picked up the orange route - maybe 4 miles. Start to the right so that at the end you can put your feet into the water and cool... More

Fernald's Neck Preserve is not well known and that is what makes it wonderful. It is a quiet, peaceful, pretty place to visit without any crowds. There are clearly marked trails and the walking isn't too difficult. We walked the blue trail, were impressed by the huge Balanced Rock, and couldn't believe how beautiful Lake Megunticook was. Well worth the... More

Well marked, relatively easy walk with access to Megunticook Lake. The balance rock is fun and there are a few lookouts where you could swim or fish. There are several different trails and could combine them to make a longer walk. No special hiking gear or poles needed.

This is not to be missed. Walk the Blue Loop and take in the views of Lake Megunticock. Detour to the Balance Rock and swim off the rock beach if you'd like. I will note that our Fitbit said the Loop and Rock detour took about 3 miles of walking and not the 1.5 miles noted in our guide book.... More

If you are looking for a quiet walk through the woods along a lake the Fernald's Neck Preserve is a good choice. It's about five miles from downtown Camden. Bring a swimsuit the water is lovely. It can be a bit buggy in June.

A great walk in the woods. Hike to balance rock or cast a fishing line into Megunticook Lake. Bring a lunch and your walking shoes and just enjoy Maine.

A very nice walk-on see coastline and mountains. Definitely worth doing if you can walk bit on mostly level ground.
