Didn't know about the Desert of Maine. A one day outing. Very enjoyable, Kids are welcomed since we ride a cart for the tour.

Was so glad we stopped here somewhat last minute. It's, for the most part, a tram ride around the desert (which is much hotter than the surrounding area) very interesting learning how it was formed and the kids absolutely loved it. Especially my 8 year old stepson. At the end you can hang out and the kids can look for... More

A very strangely interesting place where you can camp and hike around sand dunes. There's a gift shop with weird little trinkets too.

If we ever go again I would do the frisbee golf. That looked fun! Also kids enjoyed the gem mining that is included with the tickets so much they wanted to do the gem mining at the front entrance. Check times of open and close because it seemed like they were about to close for the season.

This large sandy area is unique in Maine and is so very interesting to hear how it happened while your tour guide takes you around the site.

I saw the Desert of Maine on a Roadside Attractions website when we were planning our vacation to Bar Harbor and decided to stop and check it out. It's $12.50 a person for adults and you get a tram tour of the desert with a very knowledgeable tour guide. It's fascinating to see what can happen by human carelessness and... More

I had heard of the Desert of Maine and have seen it on Google Maps but when you're actually there, it's extremely surreal to see all of the sand and visualize just how vast this phenomenon is. The tour is wonderfully informative, funny, and memorable. The tour guides thoroughly enjoy what they do as it shows in their presentation. You... More

We took our two granddaughters, ages 6 and 9, on a weekday, and were the only visitors. The tram ride was very bumpy, and it was very difficult to hear the driver/narrator when we were going over the bumpy areas. Also, the one small speaker on the tram was muffled and it was very hard to understand him. The total... More

We did a fly by night type of vacation just to do things not planned. We heard about the desert of Maine and decided to visit. There really is a desert in Maine. A real unique natural attraction one of the most amazing things to see. The tour guide we had was great and very informative.
