We were staying at the Pilgrim's Inn right in the midst of the Village. We were there on a Sunday and nothing was open so it is impossible to really give a review of the immediate area, except to say "don't visit over a Sunday unless you are planning to travel around the area and drive 20 minutes to Stonington... Long time friends Mike and Diane Kirk reside in Deer Isle village over the summers. Stumbling across a small piece of history, their gallery is located in a building that dates back to the 1700s. Diane's artistic work can be seen in their "Islands" gallery, 3 Maine street. Across from the post office and next door to the ice cream... More

Cute little village. Great restaurant (Whales Rib) at night. Harbor Ice cream at lunch. Pretty drive 13 miles out to Haystack (arts and crafts) on Sunshine road with lots of water views. The local Country Club is also public and has 9 holes. Well maintained with some of the holes recently redone. approx. $20 for nine holes

Quaint & great views. There are lots of interesting roads around town and plenty of photo ops. Take a boat trip out to Isle au Haut- a great trip, and a very pretty island.

Deer Isle has a little bit of everything. Shopping, dining, hotel and library were all nicely situated in this lovely village.

These two small Maine coastal villages are very similar in that they have each carved out a personality that is attractive to the tourist without making it a tourist trap. Since we spent most of our day visit in Stonington we did not allow equal time for Deer Isle; however, they seem more dedicated to the arts and crafts culture.... More

If you are vacating in Maine and you are near Ellsworth, I would highly suggest a day trip to Deer Isle. It is about a 45 minute ride away. You do have to go over a very old bridge which is not in the best shape. But, once you cross it , you come to Deer Isle which is an... More

Upon stepping out the door of the Pilgrim's Inn, we were on Maine Street in Deer Isle Village. We met and talked with almost all the artists whose galleries were there and as a result, their work was even more meaningful. We were struck by their love of place and how the spirit and beauty of Deer Isle had captured... More

Nice ice cream shop and bookstore/gift shop. Quite a bit more to explore but never did make it back here to check it out. More to do next time!
