We visited the quaint town of Castine while on a trip to Acadia National Park. Castine is a charming historical town with a picturesque harbor, several nice restaurants and a little park in the center of the town where the Historical Society has a very interesting museum.

Sponsoring the visit of the replica of Lafayette's ship, the French frigate "Hermione," this small society did an outstanding job. Many events and exhibitions added to the actual ship visit, amazing in itself.

The exhibits focus on Castine's seafaring history and should not be missed. Of particular interest was information about the the French ship Herminone.

If you are interested in the history of Castine, this museum is the place to go. This was my second visit and the exhibits are changed periodically. Castine has a fascinating history beginning about 1620 and was key during the revolutionary war. You'll learn some information on Paul Revere that isn't in all our history books.

Enjoyed seeing a nicely done video that explains the history of Fort George. New exhibit showcases the 1779 battle between the British and the Colonists for Fort George. Well done!

The day we visited the museum was closed but a docent was passing by, saw us looking at the building, opened it for us, and gave us a fascinating tour and spiel.
