Maine's oldest lighthouse - and one of the most picturesque and most frequently photographed in the U.S. - has been in operation since 1791. Although it is closed to the public, you can stop by the adjacent museum, enjoy the grounds which include a beach, lawns and picnic areas and view boats entering and leaving the harbor.

Beautiful scenic spot. Parking can be tricky closer to the lighthouse, but less people parking near the small beach area. Plenty of spots to take great pics. The buildings connected to the lighthouse are a small museum ($2 admission) and a gift shop adjacent.

This is a large park area, with plenty of free parking in a couple different areas of the park. The parking lot was gravel, and very muddy on the day that we were there. The lighthouse and coastline views were nice. A great stop when...More

The Portland Head Light is a beautiful lighthouse. The park surrounding it is perfect for families. Although it was foggy on the day I visited you could still see the lighthouse and the rocky coastline. The weather only reminded me of the need for lighthouses...More

Arriving here late in the day, we missed the opportunity to get up into the light, but the surroundings were well kept and the views wonderful. Hard to capture the grandeur of the scenery in photos!

There was a large event going on the following day when we visited, so parking and driving was a little tough. We really enjoyed visiting the lighthouse though we did not pay to go inside. It was beautiful and free to visit outside, but touristy.

One of the top places to be when at Portland, Maine. The place is well maintained with ample parking. The views are amazing and there are multiple spots where you can get the quintessential calendar shot!

Was fortunate enough to visit on a clear, sunny day. Words cant' describe the beauty of the lighthouse, the views and the park. Be sure to bring a camera.

We bring all our visiting friends here to see the first commissioned lighthouse. Quintessential Maine, this scenic lighthouse adorns more than its share of calendars and must be seen in person to be truly appreciated

Well maintained lighthouse in a great park in Portland Maine. Well marked walking trails along the cliff walk.

You could bike there, but it really is more enjoyable to walk. It is not large enough to have trails for biking.

I didn't but yes you can. It's a small lighthouse though. I would prefer not to spend some bucks on it as you are already in a cliff to see enough.

Yes. Absolutely. Unfortunately, the strawberry daiquiris are light on the rum.
