Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had never heard of Iandra Castle, near Greenethorpe, NSW, until we were checking out of a motel at Cowra on Easter Sunday and the motel owners mentioned Iandra Castle was having an Open Day. Well, what a revelation! After driving for miles through what seemed nowhere, all of a sudden you could see the turrets of the Castle through the trees. It was jaw-dropping to see such a beautiful, architectural masterpiece before us. There were 100s of visitors arriving! We drove throught the gates and were instructed where to park on the vast grounds of the estate, paid our $10 each for entry and then were allowed to roam the beautifully landscaped grounds, the stables and the Castle. There was no guided tour, you could just wander freely and wander we did, through most of the 57 rooms open to the public.
Iandra Castle is steeped in history, both for the Castle itself and also for being a pioneer of the share-farming system. At one time, the estate had it's own post office, school, shops, hotel and church for all the workers on the estate. The Castle when built (foundation stone laid 1880), was ahead of it's time having it's own electricity, telephone exchange and sewer system. Today, It is privately owned and doesn't get any government funding, so it relies on the Open Days to help fund restoration and maintenance.
It was magnificent and well worth the drive. Visitors were picnicking on the grounds and it was just lovely to see everyone enjoying this truly beautiful place. I intend to visit again, so I can take in more of the magic Iandra Castle holds. As it's not open all the time, best to check out the website to find out what days it will be open, then plan your visit. You won't be disappointed and will feel like you've stepped back in time to the romance of pioneering.
Cannot say enough about how great this was and I highly recommend a visit!

The homestead was amazing and set on such a beautiful parcel of land. Fantastic views from the balcony, overlooking well manicured gardens. We enjoyed a picnic lunch outside on the lawns and throughly enjoyed looking through the old castle. The $10 entry for adults was a small price to pay for such a great day out knowing the funds raised go straight back into maintaining and restoring the castle. Great coffee van on the day also! Highly recommended.

I recently found out that unfortunately Iandra Castle is not dog friendly. They have to remain inside your vehicle in the carpark area and are not allowed to be in the grounds, gardens or inside the castle. Clearly this is not suitable for hotter times of the year so I thought I would let other fellow dog owners know this in advance before they set out to visit and bring their beloved furry family members! Remember Dogs die in hot cars!
Otherwise Iandra Castle is a great place to visit for a serious history hit if you are into that!

This was disappointing. The house and gardens are beautiful but the massive crowds and lack of information outweighed this. Guided tours would be harder to timetable than current method of a free-for-all but would greatly improve the experience.

This is one place you must put on your bucket list, this was the first building built using reinforced concrete back in 1908 the original owner from England Mr Greene died before the building was finished.
The whole pace is filled with mystery and intrigue and the fixtures and fittings are outstanding.
To have Iandra Castle built in 1908 in the Middle of nowhere is just fantastic.
Share farming was started in over 33000 Acres of the property.
This is a must see.

Visiting Iandra is like taking a step back in time. The property is a little hard to find, especially when travelling form Young. But Iandra is a surprise in so many ways. The location , the beautiful grounds and the imposing presence of the actual buildings are impressive. The story accompanying the castle is enlightening, the actual tour of the house is revealing and the stables are an architectural delight. Worth a visit.

What an absolutely amazing surprise. Getting here meant driving to non specific directions that meant we felt were driving into the never never got a while. Glad we were persistent. A huge homestead that presents as a grand old property.
On the day there were sack races, egg & spoon, tug of war and all sorts of good old fashioned fun. Worth going out of your way on an advertised day. You will be thrilled. It has been well kept and is in wonderful condition. Thank you for having open days to share this beauty.

For years we have been sying we would visit Iandra Castle at Greethorpe, finaly we have, what a lovely experience, with parking attendants to direct parking, a cheap $10 enty fee each, the crowd was large, but it never seemed crowded, with easy access to the rooms, you could wander freely, We picniced on the lawn at lunch time, while we listened to the history of Iandra Castle and the Greene family which could be easily heard over the PA system. The gardens were lovely, and the house bathed in history was magnificent, well worth a visit,

After a scenic drive through the green countryside and golden canola fields, we spent a wonderful morning exploring the beautiful gardens and buildings at Iandra Castle. Our hosts were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the property and its history. After a terrific tour of the inside of the Castle, we enjoyed a delightful picnic morning tea amongst the rose gardens. Well worth a visit!

What a find and such a lovely art deco property. The grounds are gorgeous and we had a very nice day there. Interior of the property could do with some love and money. A little disappointing that they didnt have card payments, but thats country I guess.

Unfortunately no :( I wanted to bring my beloved dogs for a picnic but found out they have to remain in your vehicle in the carpark area only. They're not allowed in the grounds, gardens or inside the castle :(

Hello wonderful Iandra Castle staff, my husband and I visited last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. My question is,In the stables office I noticed a glass display cabinet which had a tap in the corner, any reason or quirky history?Would it have been a trophy cabinet?
A suggestion you may consider,a floor plan with a dot or arrow, similar to shopping centers would perhaps add to the interest , when we were upstairs some ladies were asking how to get back to the staircase!
Thank You ,Kind Regards Cathy Bonser

Is there an open day in May 3015 and if not can tou still go into the grounds . I lived in Greenethorpe in the 1050s and 60s and would love to revisit
Written 28 January 2015
Hi Pam P,
The open days for 2015 are: Easter Sunday 5th April, the Anzac weekend Sunday 26th April and June weekend Sunday 7th June. These are the only times that the Castle itself is open. I don't think it is possible to get into the grounds at any other time. However, maybe try contacting the caretakers for a more definitive answer.
