I had time to kill before my scheduled tour of the Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain house -- which IS terrific! -- so I took a quick 1/2 an hour to visit the nearby Peary-MacMillan Museum. I was hoping to see lots of stuff about Peary &...More

I brought my 3rd grade class to the Peary Macmillan Museum for field trips while studying the Arctic. The docents are well informed and the displays are constantly being updated and give a wonderful understanding of Inuit life. The artwork and carvings are wonderful.

This is small museum hidden away in a building at Bowdoin College. Very well done. A bit old school with stuffed polar bears and such. However, it tells the story well of the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Expeditions that started from Casco Bay. I've visited it every...More

Was delighted by this tiny, quirky museum. Learned a lot about Robert Peary and his expedition. Great sculptures, paintings and crafts. Will try to catch a tour next time. Excellent gift shop.

We visited the Peary-MacMillan Museum on a recent Saturday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed its collection and the history we learned through its exhibits. The crafts -- beadwork and eider garments and blanket -- are especially noteworthy.

In a few small rooms, you encounter extensive information about Arctic exploration. You observe genuine artifacts, read authentic publications, and ponder the difficulties of the process. The staff are helpful and courteous. The campus is scenic.

This museum has special exhibits plus a permanent collection of artifacts from the travels of Admiral Peary and Donald McMillan. There a GREAT stuffed full-size polar bear. This is right on the Bowdoin College quad. Admission is free.

Museum is on campus of Bowdoin College in Hubbard Hall. As another reviewer has stated, it was not easy to find and we had to ask a student for directions. It is small – 3 rooms - but with a plethora of information on Perry’s...More
