We spent a few hours in November riding around, hiking and a visit to the beach. Well maintained trails and a nice picnic area at the Holbrook Island Sanctuary headquarters with quite a few picnic tables and grills. Check out the trail to the old cemetery and look in the root cellar along the Back Shore Trail. If you are... More

nice walk, surrounded by sea breeze and amazing old oaks... birds and wild apple trees everywhere, and the best outhouse ever.

Really enjoyed exploring this unique waterside sanctuary. Walked to the ruins and wondered about their history. Ended up waterside and had a great view of Holbrook Island, Penobscot bay, and the Town of Castine. Very peaceful and serene experience.

This is a small 1000 acre park. That said, it has plenty of variety. Hike a very small "mountain" or go around the Aaron Pond. Each takes only about an hour or two.

It is a lovely place for a walk in the woods to pass fragrant spruce and vibrant soft patches of moss.

On a corner of Cape Rosier at the end of the Penobscot Peninsula is the Holbrook Island Sanctuary. Its very simple with nicely laid out, marked and maintained trails but, in the humidity lots of bugs. There was an old estate at one corner with the foundations still intact. And a little cemetery featuring Bakeman's, a name still current in... More

With 1,200+ acres, there are plenty of paths thru beaver flow ages and along shores to enjoy. Most trails are what I consider easy-moderate. Keep in mind that aside from cleaning up large trees that have fallen, marking trails and installing footbridges on particularly wet trails, H.I.S. is a nature trail, NOT a groomed carriage path or dirt path. There... More

A hidden gem of a park - beautiful trails to explore on Cape Rosier and on the actual island if you have transportation. Lots of great trails - and very little traffic

Beautiful trails. Great little beach with picnic tables. Very well kept up. Remote, peaceful and a nice place to visit if you are close by.
