I went to this beautiful sanctuary toward the end of the day, and had the place to myself. I walked several paths (the "scenic overlook" had overgrown with trees when I was there, with no view remaining unfortunately). The trails were very well marked. One...More

Very nice state park (Sanctuary). It is free. The main problem is finding. Our gps had a hard time locating and it did not help the signs to the Sanctuary all of a sudden disappeared. A local family was kind enough to provide us with...More

Really enjoyed exploring this unique waterside sanctuary. Walked to the ruins and wondered about their history. Ended up waterside and had a great view of Holbrook Island, Penobscot bay, and the Town of Castine. Very peaceful and serene experience.

It is a lovely place for a walk in the woods to pass fragrant spruce and vibrant soft patches of moss.
