Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This museum is a must-see for anyone interested in history, especially for history pertaining to the first half of the twentieth century. The man behind the museum is also very interesting to read about.
The staff here is made up of mostly retirement age folks filled with information on all the exhibits. They are more than happy to answer questions and talk about the history of the show pieces.
I encourage young families to take an hour or two for some interesting history. The entry fee is very reasonable, and I believe children are admitted for free.

Impressive breadth of displays. Kids (11, 15, and 17 years old) all had a great time doing the scavenger hunts. We were all pleasantly surprised just how good this museum ended up being, especially since it's very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend it!

Hands down the best Museum Value to be found anywhere. (admission is $7 per adult, and "children" are free under age 19). For such a low admission bar one might expect very little in exchange, but you are very quickly proven otherwise. Row upon row, and aisle upon aisle, of meticulously restored vehicles of all kinds (Snow Removal, Fire Fighting, Automobile, Service Vehicles, Motorcycles, Train Cars, and Semi Trucks) that cover the history of Maine from the very dawn of the Transportation Era to the present day. Non-vehicle displays also, including an amazingly detailed "actual" train station lovingly reassembled inside the museum, as well as an early Automotive Garage, a Blacksmiths Forge, and even a Harness Makers setup. Each exhibit is intact and in many cases complete historical examples not replicas or reconstructions. The Docents that travel about the museum are friendly and out going and delighted to engage you in conversation and answer any questions you may have. Anyone that finds themselves within a few hours drive of this Museum would be a fool not to take the opportunity to visit.

We loved our trip to this museum. My family ages 7 to 82 loved this museum and it was absolutely perfect on a rainy day. Not only are there tons of cool things to see, and super nice, helpful and informative staff, but there are also several scavenger hunts to choose fun which were fun for the entire family. We thought we would be there 30-40 minutes at most. We were there for 2 hours and only left because they were closing. Kids ages 7 and 13 were entertained the entire time because of the interesting exhibits and the scavenger hunts. We highly recommend this fantastic museum.

I’ve visited Bangor several times before but didn’t know about this museum until I saw it on Trip Advisor. It has so many interesting things from the past. I especially enjoyed the train and watched the movie on how they built the museum around the train. Very cool. Be sure to give yourself at least 2 hours on your visit. There is so much to see.

My wife and I stopped in on a rainy day after a trip to the Orono Bog was rained out. What a wonderful decision to stop in here. This is one of those places that should not be missed. The collection is extensive, and in pristine condition. What is even more important is the mission of the Cole family. What they have done here needs to be seen by those who cherish this country, and see what life really should be about. It reflects on the importance of family, a hard work ethic, and a deep respect to those who have served in the Armed Forces. This is the country I remember as a young man growing up, and what we are seeing taking place today in government and in schools is not what I grew up with. What a pleasure to see how this place focuses on the real importance of life in American and not where we are currently headed. Go here and get inspired.

Wow, this was best thing I did while day tripping to Bangor! Thank you Galen Cole for compiling all of the amazing transportation related vehicles & equipment as well as the military memorabilia. You'll definitely want to stop while in Bangor and it's a bargain at $7 for adults and $6 for AAA members đź’š

Such a well done museum for such a reasonable entry fee. Many great examples with the history of them. I really enjoyed the wall of pictures of the towns in Maine, however when you see things that you grew up with in a museum it starts to make you feel a little old. LOL

This was our second trip here but the first for our granddaughters (18-9 yrs). They were given a picture card to find objects in the museum (all different). They had a blast just looking for their items and to see who would get done first. The museum has a lot of history when you take the time to look and read the different displays. There were guides there to answer any questions one might have.

Best selection of antique cars, trucks, motorcycles, farm equipment and a complete train engine box car and caboose. They have military museum and outside WW2 and Vietnam veteran memorial.
A Maine veteran who can show proof of service will be given a beautiful maple walking stick
