I have visited the Port Hudson area twice on Civil War sightseeing trips and have been to the National Cemetery 3 times. It is kind of off the beaten path but that is one of it's main attractions to me. It is 1.7 miles off...More

Enjoyed seeing organization and structure in the sense of my fellow serviceman at rest. Beautiful view of the country near the Port Hudson Commemorative Area.

The cemetery is beautifully manicured. There is a secondary cemetery, Port Hudson, that is being renovated. There, you can see the tombstones of the United States Colored Troops, as indicated with USCT. That was touching for me.

The keepers of the Port Hudson National Cemetery were very cordial, understanding, and professional. They were truly wonderful. Though it was a difficult time for the family and friends, they make it more pleasant.

My son is an eagle scout and he has placed flags out with other boy and cub scouts for the last 9 years. This place is very well kept and I feel they do our military honors well.
