Go beyond the myths of the Old South and walk in the footsteps of 4 generations of one Creole family, both free and enslaved, who lived together in complicated, intimate family relationships on this sugar plantation that remained a world apart from the United States through the first decades of the 20th century. Laura is open daily from 9:30AM - 5PM except for major holidays. The first tour of the day begins at 10AM with tours beginning approximately every 40 minutes thereafter until the last tour of the day at 4PM. Before or after your Laura tour, enjoy authentic, homestyle Cajun food at B&C Seafood Market and Cajun Restaurant right next door.

Logan was our tour guide and my entire family were so fascinated by this tour. My family includes my husband, MIL and 2 pre-teen kids. My kids even said at the end how surprised they were how interesting the tour was for them. I highly recommend for kids older than 10...younger kids would probably get bored because everyone has to... More

A candid look into plantation life for slave and master . Our guide Camille told it "like it was" with the human failings of the family and craftsmanship of the uneducated. Great insight into history with everyday economics of the plantation and family stories brought to life.

Laura Plantation is full of rich history. This plantation was built all on slave labor. It took 11 months for the raw materials to be transformed into the bricks and beams that would become the foundation of this home. It then took only eleven days to assemble the main structure of the house. The plans and architecture were all designed... More

Compared to other plantations this is by far the most informative and they appeared to have done an immerse amount of research on the family who owned the plantation. The layout of the tour flowed and there was so much to see and talk about. The slave cabins really hit home with our group. We enjoyed the tour and plan... More

Our guide, Stephen, was an amazing wealth of history, not only about the Laura Plantation, but also about what it meant to be Creole. The plantation is still undergoing restoration and what has been completed has been beautifully done. This is the third plantation we've visited, and can state that each one is a fantastic visit. The plantations are all... More

I took the Laura Plantation tour with Kati this morning and was exceptionally pleased. The property is lovely and well-maintained. Our guide, Kati, wove a narrative combining the history of 19th century Louisiana, customs of the day, stories of the families involved with the plantation, and the tales and experiences of enslaved persons who endured so much on the plantation,... About an hour outside New Orleans, this creole plantation looks vastly different than most southern plantations you might tour. Brightly painted in Caribbean yellow, blue, red, and green, the home stands out from the crowd. The tale of the family is even more colorful, Laura was owned by the same family for several generations, and Laura herself (for whom the... More

Great guided tour of the real thing without the frills. Interesting family tales and great insight into the slavery history of this plantation. This was a great cap to visits to Oak Alley and Houmas House

This tour is well worth your time and money. We completed this tour as part of a Cajun Tours Plantation tour. We had Kati as our tour guide and her enthusiasm, knowledge and energy were fabulous. Kati took us through the house from basement to upstairs to slave cabins and had stories for each place about the family/history.

What history! The Laura Plantation tour is more than looking at antique furniture and architecture, it is a history lesson of the people who lived and worked the sugar cane fields at this creole plantation. On the tour, you'll learn the differences between creole plantations and other plantations. Our guide was not only informative, but fun and entertaining. On the... More
