Last year we visited Nova Scotia where the Acadian diaspora sadly started. So on this trip to along the Gulf Coast we decided to close the loop and see the end journey of the people who ended up on Louisianna. Saint Martinville is considered the...More

Please don't miss this attraction but call ahead. We were here between Christmas and New Years and it was not open. I can recommend it from a previous visit. The mural and other depictions of the Acadian lifestyle from years ago is a must see.

Was closed in August of 2016, due to historic floods. Signage on door stated unknown re-opening date, so I would check before just showing up. There are other great sites to see in St. Martinville and New Iberia, but check before going to these museums.

I've recently taken an interest in genealogy, and this place was a must once I looked up my Cajun ancestors. A number of them are named on the memorial wall, and some of them were born and worked in St. Martinville.

Very interesting and a good way to get a history of the area. A step back in time forgotten. Takes about an hour to go through the museum and tour.

Stopped after a recommendation by a local shop owner... nothing flashy, but a poignant introduction to Cajun history.

For young children, parents or teachers should provide some background prior to the visit. For teens and adults, it's a small museum that helps history connect to present day. It is a connections to one's roots.

This is not a huge museum, but it does a wonderful job of telling about the displacement of the people of Acadia, Canada by the British. The museum is attempting to keep the history alive so the people that live in the region and those...More
