Los Islenos Museum is a complex of several buildings saved once, twice, thrice! Very interesting guided tour by the historian of St. Bernard Parish. Bill took us through several buildings telling the history of the Canary Islanders and others who settled in St. Bernard in the most interesting way. He answered all our questions with an incredible storehouse of knowledge... More

I was looking forward to this place in our visit to Louisiana,True we enjoyed the downtown New Orleans, and the plantations. However, there is something special about this place. It is generations of descendants preserving the traditions of their ancestors from the Canary Islands of Spain and making a big influence to the French and what is today a melting pot... More

Los Islenos Museum is Excellent and the Volunteers are very friendly. The Grounds are very well kept. The Museum is staffed by the Los Islenos Heritage and Cultural Society. In March they have their annual Fiesta, Spanish Foods and Music. A perfect time for a visit. Islenos are the original settlers of St. Bernard Parish from the Canary Islands.

We actually discovered the museum by accident, and we consider ourselves quite lucky for finding it. Mr. Lloyd "Wimpy" Serigne our tour guide was wonderful! He and his wife were so friendly and very informative. Mr. Serigne told us stories about the first settlers of the area, as well as guiding us through several cottages filled with artifacts. This museum... More

My local Red Hat group had a delightful day. Our docent guide was steeped in the Islenos culture and the parish which opened our eyes to their place in American as well as local history. The exhibits were descriptive and would be valuable even as a self-guided tour. We had a great view of life at this end of the... More

One of the most unique festivals in New Orleans is the Islenos Festival in St. Bernard Parish in the spring. The food is delicious, as is the wine. The traditional dancing and costumes of the Canary Islands are not to be missed either. A hidden gem at the end of St. Bernard

Awesome place to visit if you are into history and what it was like when people first settled America. The museum is understaffed as far as volunteers go but they try to do the best that they can. I night recommend the fiesta in March.
